She is a historian, proactive about the the history, understanding, furtherance and preservation of American popular music and the Great American Songbook, serving on the Boards of the American Popular Song Society and the Tin Pan Alley American Popular Music Project. Additionally, Marilyn is a Duke Ellington scholar, active in the international Duke Ellington Study Group.
